USATF-Illinois Association Championship – 11/14/10

On Sunday, 11/14, our athletes braved some pretty chilly and windy conditions to compete in the USATF-Illinois Association Championship held at Plainfield Central High School. Complete Results. We had some outstanding performances at this meet – including the first race for Sayna and Audrey Provine in the Bantam Girls’ division. Michael O’Connor started a brave kick from about 600m from the finish, and led the trio of determined Bantam Boys that also included Chris Borkowski and Justin Fay. We also had three runners in the Midget girls and boys and the Youth girls division. All of our athletes represented our team with some tough racing, especially the power finishes of Alex Contreras, Hanna Born, and Amanda Borkowski, who came in one after the other in 4th, 5th, and 6th!

The boys are off and running at the start of the Midget division 3k race!

We also entered enough athletes to compete as two teams; one in each the Midget and Youth Boys’ levels. Both squads were team champions, scoring 21 and 32 points, respectively. Jake McEneaney led the charge from early in the race at the Midget level as an individual champion several seconds over the field, and was followed closely behind a tough-as-nails finish by Patrick Wolak, who saw a massive drop in his time from last year’s race. Ryan Hanselman held on for a hard-earned second place in the Youth division, and was followed closely by teammates Matt Horsley and Daniel Weiss. We really brought home some hardware at this meet!

I was most impressed with the way our athletes stayed and cheered for one another. It was really great to see everyone so excited for each other as we congratulated the members of our team. I’m really looking forward to practice, this week’s time trial, and the few meets we have left! See below for a complete list of our athletes’ performances in this meet:

Rockford Wildcat Inviational – October 30, 2010

This weekend, some members of our track club travelled to Rockford to compete in the 14th annual Wildcat meet. Full results here. For many of the athletes, this competition closely followed the middle school conference meet, which took place on Thursday. With minimal rest and an added practice, I really admire these athletes for competing. For others, it was their first competitive cross country experience! Our Youth Boys team was represented by enough athletes to be eligible for the team competition, and placed second beind Daniel Weiss’ 2nd place finish overall!

We’ll be working hard in the coming weeks with a time trial and the approaching USATF Illinois championship meet in Plainfield. Great job, athletes!
